Therapy Style

I am Katheryn (or Kate!) Hunter, a mental health therapist with a strong commitment to fostering well-being and personal growth. My journey as a therapist is underpinned by a solid educational foundation and nearly a decade of professional experience, offering a tailored approach to therapeutic care. My educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Science from St. Mary's College of California. This foundational knowledge equips me with a profound understanding of the intricate relationship between physical and mental health. This, in turn, informs my somatic practice, allowing for a holistic approach to mental wellness. Subsequently, I pursued a Master of Social Work degree with a specialized emphasis in Adult Mental Health and Wellness from the University of Southern California. This advanced education deepens my understanding of the complexities of the human psyche and enables me to guide individuals towards a more fulfilling life. My therapeutic approach is characterized by a person-centered model, ensuring that the experiences, values, and aspirations of each individual take precedence. I integrate a diverse array of ideologies, including behavioral, humanistic, and somatic principles, to create tailored treatment plans. Within the framework of behavioral therapy, we identify and reshape behavior patterns that may hinder personal growth, promoting responses that better suit your goals. The humanistic component of my approach fosters an environment free from judgment, suffused with empathy, and designed to nurture profound self-awareness and personal development. Somatic therapy is a pivotal element in my practice, recognizing the intricate interplay between body and mind and primarily informed by Polyvagal Theory. Somatic techniques are aimed at releasing accumulated tension and trauma to achieve emotional equilibrium. My professional journey spans nearly a decade, during which I have worked in residential treatment, acute psychiatry settings, and traditional therapy. This experience has allowed me to support individuals seeking brief assistance for specific stressors, as well as those living with serious and persistent mental illnesses. I have honed my ability to adapt my therapeutic approach to cater to a wide array of needs. My ultimate goal is to accompany individuals on a transformative journey of self-discovery, healing, and personal growth. Whether you seek assistance with immediate stressors or are living with persistent challenges, my experience and expertise are at your service. To take the first step towards a brighter, more harmonious tomorrow, I encourage you to reach out. Your journey towards enhanced mental health and personal wellness begins here, with our dedicated support and guidance. Thank you for considering Conscious Mind Therapy Institute as your partner on this journey. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
